School sex probe progressing well - SACE

The investigation into five Makhumbuza High School teachers accused of sexually abusing pupils will be completed in December, the South African Council of Educators (SACE) said on Monday.

Madiba book spreads the joy of reading

With Nelson Mandela’s strong focus on children and literacy, it is no surprise that his life story, Long Walk to Freedom has been rewritten as a children’s book.
Abridged by Chris van Wyk, who worked on the original, and illustrated by Paddy Bouma, the book was launched in Cape Town today to coincide with literacy month.

KZN department sticks to guns on sex charges

The KwaZulu-Natal education department on Thursday maintained that four Makhumbuza High School teachers accused of sexually abusing pupils have not been cleared of the charges.
“We are still saying the same thing. No charges have been withdrawn against the teachers,” spokesperson Mbali Thusi said.

Students turn Wits upside down

Hundreds of Wits University students disrupted lectures, tore up exam papers, intimidated other students and blocked roads in a protest to stop fee increments next year.
