Hotline to help pupils hit by service strike

A strike hotline that can be contacted if pupils require learning materials, or are unsupervised in class, has been made available by the Department of Basic Education.
Department spokesperson Dr Granville Whittle said pupils who needed assistance with learning materials could call the hotline at 0800 202 933.

78 000 more teachers to join strike

Two more teachers’ unions will join the public services strike this week, writing off at least three more days of teaching at some schools as experts predict serious problems for this year’s matrics.
The Cosatu-affiliated South African Democratic Teachers Union (Sadtu) held a one-day strike on August 10, and started its indefinite strike last Wednesday.
